Plasmolifting - innovative procedure for the restoration of periodontal tissues.

Plasmolifting (PRP therapy or platelet-rich plasma therapy) is a medical technique which helps to relieve inflammation, heal, restore, grow and rejuvenate tissues, improve blood circulation.

Material collection.

A small amount of blood is collected from the patient (usually up to 15 mL).

Placing in a centrifuge.

Blood in a container is placed in a centrifuge. The apparatus divides it into fractions within several minutes. Platelet-rich plasma is released for further use.

Placing into the hole.

A specially formed clot is placed into the hole after tooth extraction. Another option is to inject autoplasma into the gingival area of concern.

This method has been introduced into dental practice relatively recently, it was widely used in sports medicine, surgery and orthopedics earlier (since the beginning of the 1990s).

Method description

Plasmotherapy is used in various fields of medicine. Platelets are human blood cells responsible for the healing and regeneration of tissues. In dentistry, the process of treating gum diseases becomes faster when administering a solution with a high concentration of platelets. The likelihood of complications is significantly lower.

The plasmolifting procedure is performed quickly. It is practically painless and absolutely safe. Platelet-rich plasma is prepared before treating the oral cavity.

First, a consultation is held during which the surgeon or dentist determines the need for plasmolifting. PRP is a very simple procedure with virtually no risk. But in cases of poor blood clotting or administering anticoagulants, the procedure is not performed or specific recommendations are given to the patient in order to avoid complications.

The following factors may be indications for plasmolifting procedure:

  • - Implantation.
  • - Tooth extraction.
  • - Alveolitis.
  • - Periimplantitis.
  • - Treatment of periodontitis (gum tissue inflammation).

The plasmolifting method is useful in case of invasive surgical procedures in the oral cavity.

Positive effect of the method

PRP therapy is one of the most promising, innovative and effective methods of treatment and prevention in modern medicine. The result brings a significant relief to both patients and dentists, because with its help:

  • - The risk of infection is sharply reduced.
  • - Gum inflammation is reduced.
  • - Tissues and bones recover faster after any damage.
  • - The osseointegration of dental implants is improved.
  • - The patient is not required to take many drugs after surgery.
  • - The recovery period is less painful.
  • - The osseointegration of dental implants is improved.
  • - The recovery period after maxillofacial surgery is reduced.

The patient’s blood is used, which means that the injected platelets are not rejected by the body, and the risk of infection associated with injection is zero.

Plasmolifting is not used in the following cases:

  • - Systemic blood diseases.
  • - HIV infection.
  • - Endocrine diseases (diabetes mellitus).
  • - Heparin intolerance.
  • - Infectious diseases.
  • - Hepatitis B and C.
  • - Immunologic diseases.
  • - Administration of anticoagulants.
  • - Chronic liver disease.
  • - Pregnancy and lactation.

Preparation for the procedure

Special preparation of the patient is not required. Plasmolifting is a very simple procedure. However, the following recommendations can be specified:

  • - It is advisable to preliminary remove supragingival and subgingival dental plaque.
  • - A few days before the procedure, do not drink alcohol and do not smoke, exclude spicy and fatty foods, tea, coffee, increase water intake up to 2 litres per day.

Then a major differential forms that seriously ruins the smile. In such cases, we advise you have plastics put on your gums to return the to their natural level.
