Ceramics in crowns for maximum identity of natural teeth
A crown helps to restore a severely decayed tooth, return it to its previous form and function and protect it from the formation of cavities later on. These crowns are used in the restoration and treatment of teeth canals and implantation.
STAGES OF TREATMENT
When one or more teeth are lost, not only the aesthetic appearance is impaired, but it affects the general health as well. So, the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract directly depends on the state of the dentition. Insufficient chewing of solid food can cause gastritis, peptic ulcer disease and other diseases. Impaired speech, disturbed bite and early wrinkles appear.
In Kyiv Porcelain Dental Clinic chain, various options for removable and non-removable prostheses are available. The prosthesis replaces the lost tooth and takes over its functions. Dental crowns are one of the most common types of prostheses for partially decayed teeth.
Dental crowns are a type of non-removable prostheses. Their installation belongs to the long-term methods of restoring partially decayed teeth.
Indications for installing crowns:
- - decay of 50-70% of the tooth, when other restoration methods are already ineffective;
- - increased abrasion of hard tooth tissues;
- - the presence of aesthetic defects (discolouration after tooth root extraction);
- - after the installation of dental implants which also need crowns.
- - after endotherapy.
Nowadays, metal-free crowns are most often installed; they are made of hypoallergenic biocompatible materials such as zirconium.
Advantages of crowns:
- - special strength — a strong frame and a special layer-by-layer application of ceramic spraying make the prosthesis resistant even to increased bite force;
- - high tightness — the structure is made in the laboratory according to the results of digital scanning and fixed with a special solution, therefore the risk of infection with secondary caries is minimal,
- - long service life of the prosthesis — up to 10 years,
- - the price of a dental crown varies depending on their quantity, materials, the need to make an inlay and makes it possible to keep within the planned budget,
- - preservation of adjacent teeth — if the coronal part of one tooth is decayed, it is possible to make a prosthesis only for it,
- - matching the teeth colour,
How crowns are installed
Crowns are installed in several stages. At the initial consultation, the doctor determines the need for prosthesis, discusses with the patient the materials, the cost of the dental crown and the time needed to make it, depending on the state of the decayed tooth and the oral cavity as a whole.
In addition, it might be required to make an inlay. This is a special design which replaced the pins and consists of a root and a crown parts. The crown is attached to the inlay if the tooth is decayed almost to its root and only thin walls remain. The inlay helps to distribute the force over the entire chewing surface and extends the service life of the prosthesis.
If the inlay is not needed, then the crown is attached to the survived tooth walls.
To install crowns at Porcelain, 2-4 visits are enough:
- 1. At the first stage, if necessary, caries is treated, nerves are removed and canals are filled.
- 2. The next step is tooth facing: to maintain the correct bite, it is necessary to remove 2-2.5 mm of hard tissue; at the same time, a temporary plastic crown is made according to a dental core.
- 3. After a permanent crown is made, it is temporarily (for 2-4 days) installed in order to monitor how it works in the oral cavity.
- 4. The final stage is permanent fixation of the prosthesis with a special material.
Despite the fact that microbes are accumulated on the surface of the crowns much less, careful home and professional care for installed crowns and adjacent teeth is needed:
- - choosing the right toothpaste for regular brushing,
- - mouthwash after every meal,
- - use of irrigators — special devices which help clean the oral cavity,
- - food should be at a comfortable temperature (not too hot or cold) to reduce the risk of cracking the ceramic.
It is important to visit your dentist regularly for preventive examinations and professional hygiene.

In order to achieve the form of a future tooth, we can use removal of imprints (impressions of the teeth) and digital scanning (virtual imprints). Scanning is more precise, quicker and more comfortable.
We start dental treatment from design – we create your virtual prototype and “measure” several forms of smiles. Together we choose the best option. You can see how you will look even before treatment begins.
Our doctors work with state-of-the-art microscopes, which allow them to find the most unnoticeable problematic sections of the teeth and conduct the required treatment with maximum accuracy.
Regular cleaning of teeth is a compulsory procedure for children, which will help remove plaque and avoid serious diseases of the oral cavity.
