Correcting a Failed Implantation

RETURN TO PUBLICATIONS

Case Overview

The patient sought help at Porcelain Dent following an unsuccessful implantation at another clinic. The previously placed implants failed to osseointegrate, causing infection and requiring removal. The patient's primary goal was to restore the posterior teeth for functional chewing.

Correcting a Failed Implantation 1X-ray 1 (Initial): Failed implants with signs of bone loss and infection

Lead Dentist: Stanislav Bazyk
Total Duration: Approx. 14 months

Treatment Steps:

1. Infection Control: Removal of 4 failed implants and thorough debridement of infected areas to eliminate inflammation.
2. Bone Augmentation (after 1 month): Bone grafting in the area of teeth 14-16 to rebuild the necessary bone volume.
3. Re-implantation (after 6 months): Successful placement of new implants into the regenerated healthy bone.
4. Prosthodontics (after 6 months): Final restorations in the posterior sectors, fully restoring masticatory function.

Correcting a Failed Implantation 2X-ray 2 (Final Implants): Successful re-implantation with optimal stability

Outcome: Despite the complex starting point, we achieved stable functional rehabilitation while respecting the patient’s wish to leave the anterior teeth untouched.

Correcting a Failed Implantation 3Final Result: Restored posterior function and healthy gum tissue
